Loveland Fort Collins Northern CO High School Senior Portrait Photography

Meet Sierra.

There was a beautiful girl on Instagram who started to follow me.  Her description said, "dancer" and I held my breath.  See, ever since forever ago...when I picked up my very first textbook on photography, there was a photo of a silhouette shot.  Then I watched my all time favorite TV show, So You Think You Can Dance, and I saw this silhouette image of a dancer in my head... in an open field... during sunset.

Fast forward, as I was checking out this "dancer's" Instagram, I needed to know how good she was. After all, I know what a great dancer looks like since I've been watching SYTYCD since its first season. :) I needed to know if she can do the jumps as gracefully as I had envisioned.  I wasn't even sure if it was humanly possible but I had hoped. When I saw one of her dancing videos, I immediately knew it.  She's the one who can fulfill my photog dream. I had to do one more model shoot. And I crossed my fingers that her parents and she didn't think I was some crazy lady. >.<

After few texts, we set up a time and coordinated with our amazing hair/makeup artist, Jeni Moody, from Just Teazin Hair.  We first decided to do it on Wed but the storm was supposed to roll in starting Tues night and stay all day Wed. So we decided to push it up to Monday and hoped for the best. (Oh was I glad we rescheduled b/c there was a heavy thunderstorm with hails and heavy rain.)

It was very cloudy but was supposed to clear up by the afternoon.  [Just on a side note. Cloudy is normally good for photographers b/c it diffuses harsh sunlight. But I wanted blue skies. After all, I've been dreaming about this day.] We started off with the studio shoots and went onto our grassy location for the fun look.

Sierra and her mom, Lori, SUPER CUTE! OMG LOOOOOOVE them.  I had so much fun.  They were so down to earth, easy to talk with, and with a heart of gold. And my goodness, Sierra. She was a natural. Jeni stayed with us in studio and on location to help out with changing looks, fixing hair, and even with the reflector.  Thx Jeni! Love you!

As we were headed to our last location, I looked up and I knew it wasn't going to happen this night.  The thick clouds were not budging.  We parked our cars and as I was pointing to the hill, there it was. Right above the hill, there was a small break.  The whole sky was blanketed over except for the hill we were going to.  Then everything was sheer perfection.  Sierra jumped, twirled, and kicked as if she had wings.  Sierra, your gift of dance is undeniable.

This makes me happy.
